Aim of the WG
The aim of the WG was to design the ASTONRail intensive study programme.
General Description of the Work Done
During the first week of May 2022 (02.-04.), the Intensive Study Course (ISC) was held at the University of Zagreb. Participants were teachers and students from the partner universities of the ASTONRail project:
- Aston University in Birmingham (England),
- KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (Sweden),
- Sapienza University of Rome (Italy),
- University of Zagreb (Croatia),
- University of Žilina (Slovakia),
- University of Málaga (Spain) and
- TH Wildau (Germany).
In total 27 students participated in the study course (12 local participants from Croatia and 15 international students) and eight teachers from the ASTONRail partner universities were involved.
The ISC covered five different areas of the railway system in which lectures and courses were held:
- (1) technology,
- (2) infrastructure,
- (3) safety and security,
- (4) rolling stock, and
- (5) operation, management, and economics.
Main Results
The main results of the Intensive Study Course were testing different teaching processes with international students and teachers; the main field of studying was the railway system. Also, during the Intensive study course, different environments for holding lectures were tested, such as classical lecture rooms, seminar rooms and laboratories. Another aspect was the different types of presentation: classical, integrated, groups, freestyle and debating. After the Intensive Study Course a detailed survey was conducted with all participants. Students received a Certificate of Attendance with 1 ECTS.
